Five Brothers Remembrance Bench
This steel remembrance bench centres on five brothers who served during the Second World War and returned home. Their individual portraits, first names and shared story were combined into one substantial back panel.
One design for five individual portraits
The composition had to keep each brother recognisable while still leaving enough space for names and the family account. The portraits were arranged as a single group, with the inscription separated into its own panel so the story remains legible.
Fabrication and finish
The original workshop photograph shows the bench after the portrait and lettering panels had been cut and fabricated into the frame. A contrasting finish was then used to make the figures, names and inscription stand out against the darker bench.
This project demonstrates why complex remembrance artwork is reviewed as a full-size bench composition rather than as a portrait in isolation. Spacing, strength and legibility all have to work together.
